LTD Instructor Course A Big Bang!

On Saturday, August 4, 2007; twelve GWRRA members came together to learn techniques about teaching others. The members in attendance were from various areas of Region 'N'. They were very enthusiastic about attending this training which was led by David Orr. He did a great job and made the whole day fun. David & Kathy are the Region 'N' Trainers and members of NC-Y2. The attendees came away knowing why “Training the Trainers” is one of David and Kathy's favorite seminars to teach in Leadership Training. It was a job very well done.

Ken and Julie Zahn, TN District Trainers, who had set up this training had to suddenly leave for Florida due to the unexpected passing away of Ken's stepfather. This enabled some other GWRRA members to be called upon to help out. Special thanks to Jeff & Cherri Liner, Tennessee District Directors, for the opening kickoff of the seminar. Also, to Kim Latham, TN G-2 & ADD(East), for taking care of getting the snacks, drinks and lunch for the meeting. Also, Kim had the assistance of Roger Crowe, CE TN-V, to help. The Lasagna Luncheon was devoured by all as we got to know each other better.

The class members included Jim & Brenda Sterling (TN-Y), Tommy & Pam Meador (CE & Motorist Awareness Co-Ordinator VA-K), David & Marie McGill (ACD's TN-V), Jim & Beverly Rambo (MED's TN-V), Ed & Linda Johnson (VA-H & Region 'N' MED's), Marie Crowe (CE TN-V) and Max Thomas (TN-Y). Some of these members have had some instructional background through their professional careers. The class learned about the Leadership Training Division within GWRRA, which includes its purpose, goals, and curriculum. Also, steps to learning, planning and preparing for teaching were presented. At the end of the training each student gave a short presentation to the class. These presentations were informative, entertaining, and fun.

In order to be certified as a GWRRA LTD Instructor, each student must now complete their certification paperwork and present a 50 minute presentation. As you see these people around our organization, encourage them to finish their certification process and congratulate them on a job well done thus far.

The more individuals that become certified instructors, translates into more training sessions that will be available for chapter members at more locations.

After the training session was over, we all were standing around talking with each other and decided that we should go have dinner somewhere. Hey, isn't part of what ''Gold Wingers' are suppose to do is to eat? Regrettable David Orr and Ed & Linda Johnson had to return home and could not be with us. They just do not know what they missed.

The group decided to catch the trolley and stop at the first restaurant that appealed to us. However, with the traffic being what it was for a Saturday night in Servierville, the decision was made to walk from the hotel to wherever we decided to eat, even though the temperature was still rather hot. The trolly runs approximately every fifteen minutes and we could walk faster than the traffic was moving. OBTW, a trolly never passed us. So we went forth and decided to spend the evening at Damon's for dinner. This was one mile from the hotel past several restaurants; TGIF, Olive Garden and Red Lobster just to name a few. All had lines extending outside. However, it was well worth the effort as we did not have to wait in line, service was great and the food was excellent.

The walk back was enjoyable as we went along a pasture of horses, who wanted to make our acquaintance and stopping at some stores to look around. Once back at the hotel, the pool area became the main attraction for the remainder of the evening.

The next morning we all began to go our separate ways. Just as the McGills, Rambos and Crowes were leaving Allen & Debbi Boyd from Brandon, MS came out and started asking questions about our bikes and what group we were with. After talking with them for approximately 1 1/2 hours about our biking family, rides and the bikes, we had them ready for Gold Wings. Debbie stated that the the Wing seat was more comfortable than their car seat. They were a very nice and friendly couple and hopefully we will see them riding on a new 'Wing' in the near future.

It was wonderful meeting new friends and getting to know one another.

OBTW, Ken and Julie, were your ears burning any during this time?

As one stated -"ya just had to be there" !
