Certified Instructors Course a big success!

On Saturday, December 3, 2005 15 GWRRA members gathered to learn more about teaching others.   Attendees came from as far away as middle Tennessee , northern Kentucky and the shores of North Carolina to attend the 8 hour training which was led by CJ Karcanes, International Director of Training.   In addition to CJ’s wisdom, the participants also had the opportunity to learn from Bob and Sandy Renner, Region “N” Trainers.

The students in this class were a diverse bunch.   3 women and twelve men, new and long-time members of GWRRA, riders and co-riders, many of who already had some type of instructional background through their professional lives.Click for larger picture   Students learned more about the Leadership Training Division within GWRRA, including its purpose, goals, and curriculum.   They also learned more about the keys to adult learning, planning and preparing for teaching, and each student gave a short presentation to the class by day’s end.   The presentations were informative, entertaining, and fun!

In order to be certified as a GWRRA LTD Instructor each student must now complete his or her certification paperwork and present a 50 minute presentation.   We are pleased that David and Judy Allen (TN-A-2), Lucky Dyer (TN-G-2), Paul Hutson (TN-F), Don Luth (TN-A), Roger Crowe (TN-V), Aaron and Edna Lambert (TN-H), Bob Long (TN-G-2), Bill Smith (TN-V), John Williams (NC-I), Frank Albert (TN-E-2), and Ralph Johnson (KY-D) were all able to join Ken and me for this training.   Please join with us in encouraging these people to finish their certification process and congratulating them on a job well done!

Having more Certified Instructors in Tennessee will allow us to hold more ‘cluster-type’ training sessions for the members.   We plan to hold one-day ‘Saturday Seminars’ within a short distance of several chapters so that more people can easily attend.   If you are interested in participating in a future Certified Instructors course, having a ‘Saturday Seminar’ in your area, or if you have a particular subject you’d like to see presented, please contact us at ken.zahn@smokymtnit.com.
